Accra, Aug. 17, GNA - Global Evangelical Church, formerly the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Ghana, on Sunday elected Rev Emmanuel Gbordzoe, as the new Moderator of the Church at the end of its 62nd Synod held in Accra.

The out-going Moderator of the Church Rev. (Cdr) Ferdinand Gbewonyo introduced Rev. Gbordzoe and a five-member executive, who will take over the mantle of leadership in January next year, at a special thanksgiving service to round off the Synod.

Rev Gbordzoe, who was ordained, 20 years ago, holds a Master of Divinity Degree in Theology from Virginia Trinity Union University School of Theology in the United States of America. He is currently head pastor at Adonai Chapel in Madina.

He said the election to the new office is a challenge and expressed the hope that together with the new leaders and the congregation, the Church will be lifted to another level.

Meanwhile, in a communiqu=E9 at the end of the synod and read by the Synod Clerk Rev. Setorwu Ofori, the Church called on all political parties to co-exist in peace, show tolerance for each other and exercise a high degree of restraint to solve their problems.

The Synod commended President John Agyekum Kufuor on the vibrant policies his government is pursuing to sustain the growth of democracy in the country.

The communique also asked the government to place the development of agriculture high on its agenda in efforts to revive the ailing economy.

It also called on government to intensify the education on the National Health Insurance Scheme, which, it said, will be a welcomed alternative of financing health care delivery in the country.

The statement added its voice to those of other stakeholders to give a more recognized role to churches in the administration of mission schools so as to instil discipline and ensure high moral standards among the youth.

In a sermon, Rev Fred Deegbe, Senior Pastor, Calvary Baptist Church, called on Christians to shun false teachings and stand up for the truth in all their actions, saying that if this is done the country will be a better place for all.
