Renovations Of JAK's Private House: Workers In Arms

Workers of the Prestige Department of the Public Works Department, (PWD) who worked on the renovation of the President’s private house are up in arms. They have challenged the special audit report on the renovation and made fresh allegations which undermine claims made earlier by Kwamena Bartels, the former Works and Housing Minister.

The audit report, issued by the Auditor General accused two workers at the PWD of embezzling ?26.4 million out of the ?50.9 million procured from the Consolidated Fund to undertake the project. But the workers insist that no materials were stolen or diverted from the President’s house.

They have issued a comprehensive reaction to the Special Audit report saying that the renovation cost more than the ?41 million announced by Mr Bartels.

According to them, the cost of labour, mosquito netting, change of doors and special fittings was not included in the previous estimates.
