Recycling plastic waste promotes clean environment

Mrs. Rosemond Naana Prah, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of 'Rainbow Palace', an environmentally minded NGO has reiterated the need for Ghanaians to see plastic waste as a resource for development rather than allowing it to interfere with the beauty and sanitary situation of the environment.

She said paying attention to plastic waste, recycling and having alternative usage for the waste could generate revenue for persons involved and the nation as a whole.

The CEO said the NGO took up the responsibility to educate schools on how to recycle plastic waste materials into useful and productive venture.

Mrs Prah at the maiden Regional Plastic Recycling Festival on the theme 'Recycling Plastic, Saving the Environment through Creativity', said plastics were no more waste, but a resource that could increase Ghana Gross Domestic (GDP) and attract investors into the country.

The festival was on sanitation and creativity as well as project that could challenge schools to develop useful products using plastic waste materials. Mr. Kojo Acquah, the Municipal Chief Executive for Effia-kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly, commended the NGO for such a crucial initiative, adding that it would help to reduce dumping of plastic into gutters and other unauthorised places.

"The environment is nature's gift to mankind, and we ought to keep it neat by avoiding dumping of plastic waste and rubbish anyhow," he said.

He added that the problem could be fix if individuals, institutions and organisations changed their attitude towards the environment.
