Rawlingses will NOT go to court

Former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings says the Rawlings family will not go to court ?to seek redress over publication of falsehood and inaccuracies against us by Mr Baako?. Mrs Rawlings was commenting on the so-called bank account they are alleged to have operated in Switzerland in an interview with Radio Gold.

She said originally they had wanted to sue Kweku Baako, but their lawyers advised them not to, because ?they say we don?t have a favourable judiciary. The judiciary is not favourable to us, it is hostile towards us and so if they come out with an issue of no libel, Ghanaians will think that we are guilty?.

Mrs Rawlings says the best option is the Media Commission, which has been mandated to check and regulate the excesses, falsehood and lies as well as unnecessary defamation of people irrespective of their status.

?People should know that if the media has constitutional rights, individuals in the country also have their constitutional rights. I am listening to my lawyers totally and fully, since they will lead in whatever I do in court?.

Reacting to some of the issues raised by the former First Lady, Mr Baako said ?I am disappointed that Mrs Rawlings said she was not going to court. I am surprised because of the kind of threats they issued through their Special Assistant?.

Asked whether she will contest the flagbearership of the NDC, the former First Lady said she has no ambition to contest the primaries for the flagbearership. ?I am definitely not interested in the flagbearership of the party?.

Reacting to a report in a private daily that despite protests from her husband - ex-President Rawlings that she should not contest the flagbearership, she was bent on contesting, Mrs Rawlings said ?it is amazing that the paper knows what is in my household best. As far as I am concerned, my husband and I discuss these things all the time and we have a definite position on this. If my husband says I am not contesting, then it is because he has discussed these things with me and I say I am not contesting. So what makes a man like this who is always full of falsehood, to come out with such allegations again?.
