Rawlings sends message of condolence to Japan

Accra, May 15, GNA - President Jerry John Rawlings on Monday sent a message of condolence to the Prime Minister of Japan on the death of Mr Keizo Obuchi, former Prime Minister.

President Rawlings said it was with profound sorrow and sadness that he leant of the passing away of Mr Obuchi. "I knew Mr Obuchi as an unassuming but ardent pragmatist and coordinator who played a significant role in placing Japan's economy back on the path of recovery.

"I extend on behalf of the government and people of Ghana and on my own behalf to the people and government of Japan as well as the bereaved family, my deepest heartfelt and sincere condolences."

Mr Obuchi, 62, died on Sunday after being in a coma for six weeks ago after suffering a strike.
