Rainstorm hits Sunyani Municipal area

Sunyani (B/A), Aug. 12, GNA – Residents affected by a recent rainstorm at Airport residential area in Sunyani, have appealed to the Municipal Assembly to come to their aid, by providing adequate drainage to offset the persistent flooding of the area.

Nana Yaa Abrafi-Bonsu, spokesperson for the residents of the area, made the appeal through the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani on Wednesday.

She said the recent rainstorm in the municipality flooded parts of the residential area and destroyed personal properties and cash.

Nana Abrafi-Bonsu complained about the inadequate drainage system in the area and called on the Municipal Assembly to remove buildings and structures blocking the waterways to address the problem.

In another development, the recent rainstorm in the municipality had ripped off roofs of buildings at Baakoniaba in the municipality.

Damage caused to property is estimated at GHC2000.

A number of residents, who received injuries, as a result of the flood, were rushed to the regional hospital in Sunyani where they were treated and discharged.
