Public Accounts Committee begins sitting

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament officially began sitting on Tuesday, February 11, 2014.

Under the chairmanship of Kweku Agyemang Manu, Member of Parliament for Dormaa Central Constituency, the Committee, on the first day of sitting, interrogated officials of two educational institutions – the School of Public Health of the University of Ghana and the University of Professional Studies, Accra.

Officials of the School of Public Health appeared to be at sea regarding expenditure over the past year.

They were accompanied by a Deputy Minister of Education, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

Mr Ablakwa's boss, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, joined officials of UPSA to answer questions from the Committee.

The Committee is expected to examine audited accounts of state institutions as submitted to Parliament by the Auditor-General.
