Prosecute Rawlings If... - Dan Lartey

...I cannot see anything wrong in his statements..

The presidential candidate for the Great Consolidation Peoples Party in the 2000 Elections, Mr. Dan Lartey has called on the government to prosecute Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings if his utterances at Kumasi contravene the laws of the country.

Speaking to The Accra Daily Mail (ADM) yesterday in reaction to Rawlings' statements, Mr. Lartey said all citizens have the right to air their opinion on national issues but such a right must be exercised responsibly.

He told ADM, "whatever he (Rawlings) says he must be responsible for it. If it falls foul of the law then the law has to take its course. Put him before court."

On the content of Rawlings' statement Mr. Lartey however said, "I cannot see anything wrong in it. That is his mind. Whatever he said is what he believes in. He has every reason to talk."

However, Mr. Lartey who was once invited by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) to answer questions on similar utterances advised Rawlings to comport himself and never to think of involving himself in any shady deal to destabilize the peaceful political environment of the country.

On his pet "Domestication" campaign, he said, "Domestication is not a slogan but a basic principle aimed at using the material and human resources to develop the country." On the President's initiatives on textiles, cassava and palm nuts, he said, "the initiative would boom if it is implemented on a large scale."
