Prez Kufuor holds talks with visiting President Yala

Accra, Aug.17, GNA- President John Agyekum Kufuor on Sunday held closed door discussions with President Koumba Yala of Guinea Bissau who is on a two-day working visit to Ghana.

President Kufuor, welcoming President Yala to his residence said he had an open invitation to President Yala for a State visit to Ghana. President Yala said with the turmoil that Guinea Bissau went through during their struggle for independence, the people had decided to restore and maintain dialogue and tolerance among themselves to live in peace and contribute to the development of Africa.

He said: " I oppose violence in any form and appointments to my government had been from members of other political parties to maintain unity among the people".

President Yala said the major pre-occupation of the government was national reconciliation and with an opportunity for the new generation of the people to build up democracy based on their own customs and traditions, general elections would be held in the country soon. Present at the discussions was Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Dr Mohammed Ibn Chambas, Executive Secretary of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

President Yala is expected to return home on Monday, August 18.
