President commissions Abomosu electrification project

President Jerry John Rawlings, on Monday called on electoral officials to protect the integrity of the process to make the results of Thursday's elections acceptable to all parties.

He cited the proposed denial of about 10 percent of registered voters without photo ID cards from voting and the registration of minors by some unscrupulous electoral officers and said these could put the results of the elections into disrepute and plunge the country into anarchy. President Rawlings was speaking at Abomosu in the Eastern Region when he commissioned an electrification project for 10 communities in the area under the third phase of the government's Self Help Electrification Programme (SHEP3).

The District Assembly provided four streetlight bulbs, each costing 350,000 cedis to each of the communities.

President Rawlings urged Ghanaians not to gamble with the leadership of the country to reverse the clock of progress.

"The government has brought dignity through hard-work and honesty to the governance of the nation", he said and urged politicians seeking power to use correct and appropriate channels instead of peddling falsehood and playing on the intelligence of the people.

President Rawlings described the Vice President, Professor John Evans Atta Mills, as disciplined and principled, who would continue what he had left behind and called on the electorate to vote massively for him.

He expressed the hope that the people would use the facility to process their farm produce and for the development of the area.

Professor Kwaku Danso Boafo, Minister of Health, said the Abomosu Hospital was being rehabilitated, expanded and provided with equipment.

He called on health personnel not to collect money from those exempted and warned that those found floating the order would be summarily dismissed.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Miss Patience Adow, commended the government for the provision of amenities in the area and called on the people to vote for Professor Atta Mills to continue the work of President Rawlings.

President Rawlings later addressed a durbar of the Chiefs and people and NDC supporters at Nkyenoa.
