President Rawlings’ throat surgery OK

ACCRA, September 27 – The President is reported to be doing fine after a minor surgery to remove a growth in his throat, but is undergoing a biopsy to determine the status of the little lump.

The surgery which took place in Geneva last week was successful, Chronicle intelligence gathered, and the next few days will tell whether the spot is benign or malignant. That will determine how long President Rawlings will be away. If, God forbid, it truns out to be malignant, the President may be away for at least five weeks for chemotherapy.

Chronicle learns that Mrs. Rawlings is keeping an eagle’s eye watch over her husband who is being kept away from any disturbing news from Ghana. A statement from Government had earlier confirmed that the President is scheduled for a medical review though no details were supplied.
