President Kufuor Leaves for Germany Today

President Kufuor sets off today for a three-day visit to Germany to hold official talks in Berlin and Hamburg.

He has been invited by the Federal Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder who will host a lunch for him in Berlin on Thursday.

In addition, President Kufuor will meet the Federal President Johannes Rau and the Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development in Berlin.

The President is accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Finance.

In Hamburg he will hold talks with the Lord Mayor and participate in a symposium organized by the German "Afrika-Verein" (Africa Association) where the President will deliver a keynote address on the topic "Ghana - Gateway to Africa".

He will be the guest of honour at the Africa Evening in Berlin, which is the cultural highlight in a series of events being held in connection with the Plan for Action for Africa in advance of the G8 Summit in Canada in mid-June. Under the slogan "Africa for the future - Africa works" the Africa Evening focuses on the continent's vast potential - the wealth of innovative and creative approaches and initiatives within Africa itself for shaping its own future.

During his stay in Germany the President will meet with both the Ghanaian community in Berlin and Hamburg.
