The Akropong Divisional Police Command has impounded a Hyundai truck with registration number WR 3991-14 loaded with total of 2,184 slabs of compressed substances suspected to be Indian hemp.

The contraband goods branded with MTN logo were hidden under 64 bags of cement bags at Aseseeso in the Akuapem North municipality in the Eastern region and being transported to an unknown destination.

The Akropong Divisional police commander, Chief Superintendent Charles Kofi Adu said the police were on their normal patrols on the Asseseaso- Somanya road where the truck plied where they made the arrest.

He disclosed that that there were three passengers including the driver on board but upon seeing the police at a distance, they abandoned the vehicle and fled.

According to him, investigations have since commenced into the matter and his outfit has stepped up measures to apprehend the suspects.

The Eastern Region in recent times has gained notoriety in the smuggling of large quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
