Police Pick Party Secretary

The embarassing stand-off between the police and Alhaji Huudu Yahaya, the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) may be over in a few hours as the police consider the last option of arresting him.

As was reported by The Independent last Tuesday, the police gave the NDC Scribe up till last Monday to return the Benz car currently in his posession to be handed over to the rightful owner-one Fred Oware.

The NDC General Secretary in an undertaking last week Wednesday promised to return the Benz car to the owner through the police. With the current development, police sources hinted The Independent that Alhaji Huudu Yahaya could be picked up by tomorrow if he still fails to hand in the vehicle.

Further inquires by this paper at the Police Headquarters yesterday showed that Alhaji Huudu Yayaha had not only reneged on his promise to the police, he is also nowhere to be found.

Police sources responded to our inquiries that Alhaji Yahaya had proved elusive after his lawyer had assured the police of returning with his client to sign the necessary documents for onward delivery of the Benz car to the owner.

It may be recalled that the Alhaji Yahaya's lawyer made an undertaking promising to come to the Police Headquarters with his client last Monday, the deadline given to him by the police.

Police sources were however emphatic that both the Alhaji and his lawyer had not fulfilled their promise.

Our investigations at the Police Headquarters show that the last time that the NDC General Secretary was sighted at the place was last week Wednesday when he promised to send the car to the police.

Questioned as to whether the police still stand by the arrest threat, the source answered in the affirmative.

According to the source, the police took the decision to retrieve the Benz car from the NDC General Secretary when the CEPS informed them that there was an institutional error in allocating the Benz to Alhaji Huudu Yahaya.

With the error identified, CEPS agreed to either refund Huudu's monies to him or replace the car, the source further disclosed.

The Independent last July 12, reported how the owner of the said car-Fred Oware stormed the NDC headquarters to demand his car but could not carry out his threat because Huudu was not at post..

All attempts to get Alhaji Yahaya on his cellular phone proved futile as it was perpetually on hold..

The Independent established from its investigations that all three of Fred Oware's cars were seized and sold by auction to NDC government functionaries.

Two of the buyers, The Independent further established returned the cars after the change of government.
