Police Investigate Arson At Temasco

Tema,(Greater Accra Region) 10 Oct. The Tema police are investigating the circumstances that led to a fire outbreak in a wooden structure used as a store by the assistant headmistress of the Tema Secondary School (TEMASCO) at dawn today. A source close to the Community two police told newsmen that Mrs Victoria Opoku heard the noise of fowls, and went out to find the cause, only to realise that the store, about 30 metres to her bungalow, was on fire. The assistant headmistress alerted the Fire Service by phone but before they arrived, the fire had razed the structure to the ground and burnt some vehicle spare parts, accessories and five brand new lorry tyres, estimated at more than three million cedis. The police said they suspected that the arsonists are students from the school who had earlier on Tuesday put up a notice which read ''you will see soon'' on the door of the office of the assistant headmistress. No arrests have been made. Meanwhile, the Ghana Education Service (GES) is taking measures to remove Mr Abednego Agyepong, the headmaster, from his bungalow following a disciplinary action by the Minister of Education, Mrs Christina Amoako-Nuama during an unannounced visit to the school on October two. A GES source said when the Minister arrived at the school at about 10 a.m., the headmaster was not in his office. He was traced to his bungalow, where he was found drunk and started misbehaving towards the Minister and her entourage. The source said Mr Agyepong was handed his removal letter on October three, but he is still occupying his bungalow even though an acting headmistress, Mrs Akosua Adu, has taken over from him.
