Parliament races to complete workload for this year

Parliament is racing to complete what remains of its scheduled business for the year. With less than 24 hours to end this year’s session, the house has a huge backlog of issues to deal with. This has compelled the Speaker to warn that members might have to work on Christmas Eve in an unprecedented attempt to complete the business for this year.

Against all odds, some MPs hope the work for the year will be completed on Friday as scheduled. Others have expressed the willingness to work on Monday if the need arises.

In a marathon session on Thursday, which saw the MPs sitting until 6pm, the house took the Bank of Ghana Bill through the consideration stage. The House expects to consider all the proposed amendments to the National Reconciliation Commission Bill and also, approve provisional estimates to cover government’s expenditure for next year until the budget has been approved.
