Our players play for honour and not money - GFA

Ghana Football Association president, Kwesi Nyantakyi, yesterday disclosed that the Black Stars play for honors and not for the money as the being speculated in the Media.

He revealed this after he was questioned by African football legend; Samuel Eto’o Fils about what the FA have been doing to safeguard the Black Stars outstanding performances at international competitions in recent times.

“We have enjoyed a very good relationship with our players. Our players play not for the money, contrary to the erroneous impression that they play because of the bonuses they earn. They earn far more fat bonuses and salaries from their clubs.” he stated.

The President of GFA, who hosted the FIFA delegation led by Eto’o for the ‘FIFA 11 FOR HEALTH’ project here in Accra, also significantly stressed on the patriotism of the players.

He emphasized, “There is a spirit of patriotism that has been inculcated in the players that anytime they come to play for the country, the interest is to raise and serve the interest of our country. Getting bonuses is secondary and this spirit has been done because of the way we related to our players.”

“We have a code of conduct for players in camp and every player who comes into the team signs into this code of conduct and submits himself to the rules and regulations of camping” he added.
