As part of events marking the 25th Anniversary celebration of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s ascension to the Golden, a durbar was held on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, specifically dedicated to non-Ashantis.

The event which coincided with the Awukudae Festival saw Otumfuo sitting in state to receive personalities and groups of diverse ethnic backgrounds who thronged the Manhyia Palace to pay homage to him.

Addressing the special “Ahohor Durbar” Otumfuo said the event underscores the hospitable nature of Ashanti to all persons.

“Whether Northerners, Fantes, or Ewes we are all dwelling in unity and this is to prove to Ghana that unity is a necessity. People may sit somewhere and accuse Ashantis of not being hospitable but that is borne out of ignorance.

"We are proving you wrong. Where else will you see Fante New Town or Anloga; where did Zongos originate from? It is us who have set the pace for everyone else to follow.

“So let’s admit that Asanteman stands for unity, let’s admit that we want Ghana to be united and to develop, let’s admit that everyone capable of doing a particular work should be given the chance regardless of whether they are Fante or Anlo.

"We admit that Ashantis are not discriminatory, we honour who honour is due and whoever has the competence to work. So, this event is to show that we want Ghana’s unity and development. Let’s all unite and push for Ghana’s development,” he stated.

Born Nana Barima Kwaku Duah, the current Asantehene assumed his position on April 26, 1999, following the passing of his predecessor, Opoku Ware II.

As part of events marking his Silver Jubilee, the Manhyia Palace has announced a year-long activity to honour the occupant of the Golden Stool.
