"Opposition is no threat", Assisseh

The ruling NDC appears undisturbed by the spate of strikes that are rocking the country in recent weeks and indeed they believe that the 1996 elections will be a walk over, according to the Ghanaian Independent.

"These are all ripples which would be effectively taken care of. After all a hungry man is an angry man and we are going to give workers their need by November 1996 when elections will be held", says Mr Vincent Assisseh, publicity officer of the NDC.

Mr Assisseh, who believes that the 1996 budget statement would be "soft" so as to take care of workers' plight, further asserted "and what if in 1996 we come up with a budget that will make workers forget about the past?"

The premise of his conviction is that the opposition cannot provide an alternative solutions to the current problems facing the country due to the power struggle within its rank and file.
