Okyeman To Regain River Birim And Others.

Human Net a non-profitable and non Governmental Organization (NGO) which is aimed to
educate people on how to preserve natural resources such as water in collaboration
with Aquatec an Italian water purification company yesterday presented an
alternative on how to regain River Birim for public consumption.
It would be recalled that River Birim which was the main source of water for the
people of Kibi and it’s environs in recent days has been polluted by mining
activities which has brought a intense scarcity of water in the community.
In a programme presented by Mr. Emmanuel Mensah Boamah the President of Human Net
emphasized on the fact that the world water crisis which other countries like
America, China, Iran, Mexico and others have inherited is not far from Ghana if the
manner by which we treat our water bodies is not reconsidered.
He also stated how a country like America is spending 300 billion dollars to relay
their pipe lines to transport the sea water for public consumption due to their
water shortage.
Mr. Boamah again noted that mining companies who recklessly destroy rivers must be
tasked to purify them for consumption rather than digging boreholes as an option or
alternative to substitute the polluted one which for him is not the best option
since the technology of purifying water contaminated with cyanide and mercury is
available. According to him the water underground should be kept for future use.
The Okyehene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin the only King in Ghana who advocate for
the preservation of rivers and other natural resources expressed his keen agitation
on how rivers under his jurisdiction and beyond have been polluted by irresponsible
miners and assured the executives of Human Net his support to regain those affected
rivers.
In his speech, he stated that “If we can transplant a human heart but cannot provide
good drinking water for our people in our own country where there is an abundance of
rivers, then there is a problem somewhere.
Osagyefo also challenged other Organizations to imitate the good steps of Human Net
to help protect, preserve and restore or natural resources.
