Ohene-Ntow: Nduom is an apprentice

The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Ohene-Ntow has stated that in this year’s election, only the NPP has a Presidential Candidate with a proven track record of commitment to Ghana’s democracy and general wellbeing. “Prof Mills was thrust into the political fray by the generosity and benevolence of former President Rawlings. In other words, he is a politician by default”, he said.

“As for Paa Kwesi Nduom, he is our apprentice who ran away before he finished his apprenticeship. The only genuine, experienced and well baked politician on the Presidential ballot this year is Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo” he added. Nana Ohene Ntow said this when he addressed the Ghanaian community in Canada last Friday. He is a member of a high-powered NPP delegation accompanying the 2008 NPP Presidential Candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo on his North American trip.

When, he addressed the over five hundred Ghanaians at a dinner in his honour in Toronto last Friday, the Presidential Candidate assured Ghanaians in the Diaspora, some of whom were forced into exile more than two decades ago, that “We’re moving forward” as a nation and that the days of suppression and human rights abuse were over.

Before Akufo-Addo addressed the gathering, various Ghanaian associations took turns to endorse his candidature. Some of these groups included the Northern Cultural Association, a group of Ghanaians from the three northern regions, the Veterans Association, Car Dealers Association, the Ashanti Cultural Association, the Akyem Cultural Association and the Okuapeman Cultural Association.

Before the dinner, the Ghanaian Traditional Council called on him at his hotel to assure him of their support. The Ghanaian Traditional Council is a grouping of Ghanaians who are chiefs in Ghana but who are resident in Canada. The chiefs, led by Nana Kwarteng Kwamang Benkumhene and Togbe Dunyo Hodzi, chief of Aganve in the Akatsi District promised to use their influence among their people back home to get them to vote for Nana Akufo-Addo during the December elections.

Earlier on Thursday, Nana Akufo-Addo had addressed a town hall meeting of the Ghanaian Community at the Ghanaian Presbyterian Church. The Presidential Candidate took them through developments in Ghana in the last seven years and assured them that Ghana was firmly on the path of growth and development. He therefore urged them to continue to show faith in the Ghanaian economy by investing in it.

The Presidential Candidate of the NPP assured those who wanted to come home to help in the development effort that the red carpet would be rolled out to them. “We shall rationalise the import tariffs on goods and vehicles, so that you can relocate with relative ease”, he said. “We shall also create the opportunity for you to apply your credit facilities at home”, he added.

During an open forum, the majority of the people expressed confidence in the NPP administration and said that indeed so much has happened in the last seven years of NPP administration. Other officials travelling with Nana Akufo-Addo are Hon. Yaw Osafo Maafo, Hon. K.K. Apraku, Dr. Arthur Kennedy, Nich Adi-Dako his Director of Operations, Yaw Amfo-Kwakye his Personal Assistant, Samuel Anim Obiri from the Operations outfit of the campaign and Mustapha Hamid his Spokesperson.
