Odotei shouldn’t claim MTN sponsorship- Commodore

Former Hearts of Oak Board Chairman, EM Commodore Mensah, says it will be wrong for the club’s Strategic Management Committee Chairman Vincent Sowah Odotei to take full credit for the club’s recent MTN sponsorship deal.

Odotei has openly boasted over his ingenuity in securing Hearts of Oak’s three-year sponsorship deal with MTN worth GHC4 million in 2008, when he was the CEO of the club.

The telecom giants ended their marriage with the Phobians some two seasons ago, but EM Commodore Mensah has explained that the former Board Chairman of the club, Ato Ahwoi, rather deserves credit for establishing the partnership between the Phobians and MTN.

“When MTN was Spacefon was when the relationship first started. And, Mr. Ato Ahwoi brokered the deal for Hearts of Oak to link up with Spacefon. So, I wasn’t surprised that we got that MTN deal,” Commodore told Starr Sports.

He added:“It was during his (Odotei’s) management period but he was working under a board so if Odotei is claiming credit, I would say he can only claim credit for part of the work. There had been antecedents before then".

Currently, Hearts has no major sponsor and are still searching for one after match day four.
