Obiri Boahen backs Otiko’s call for sex-for-EC-job probe

The Deputy General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen, has backed calls made by the Women’s Organiser of the party for the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) to probe a sex-for-job allegation made against Electoral Commission (EC) Chair Mrs Charlotte Osei by Assin Central Member of Parliament Kennedy Agyapong.

Mr Agyapong alleged that the EC boss exchanged sexual favours for her position, a comment that has been heavily criticised by women’s groups and civil society organisations.

Despite the widespread condemnation, the NPP women’s organiser, who spoke to Class News, said there was a need for parliament and security agencies in the country to investigate the claim made against the EC chair, a position Mr Obiri Boahen said he shared.

Speaking on Inside Politics on Class 91.3FM Monday July 18, Nana Obiri Boahen said the EC boss’s refusal to deny the claim raises questions.

“I fully endorse Otiko Djaba’s remarks, personally, I fully endorse it. Why? In the sense that ever since Kennedy made those allegations, Charlotte Osei has never come out; she has never denied those allegations. Now Charlotte Osei has been a lawyer for about 20 years …in law, how do you treat it? That which ought to have been denied, if not denied, is due to have been admitted”, he told host Moro Awudu.
