Nobody Recieves Wages Worth His Work

SACRIFICE!…PRESIDENT TELLS WORKERS
The President, Mr. John Agyekum Kufuor, has asked workers to sacrifice a little for the growth of the nation. He acknowledged that workers were not appropriately remunerated but stated it was because of the economic situation.

“Nobody in the country receives wages worth his work, including myself as the President of the nation”, he said. President Kufuor was addressing a durbar held in his honour over the weekend by the chiefs and people of Amanten in the Attebubu district of Brong-Ahafo.

The President said also that it was the wish of the government that higher wages were paid to doctors and other paramedics to stem the brain drain but that was impossible considering the financial situation of the economy.

He noted that development countries such as the United States of America (USA) and Britain passed through similar difficult situations before attaining their current level of development where workers now earn higher salaries.

He stressed the government’s commitment to modernize agriculture to ensure food sufficiency in the country. And in line with that objective, the President said plans were advanced for the importation of about 1,000 tractors into the country to boost the sector.

Government also intends to set up agricultural stations which would give technical assistance to the farmers to the farmers to solve their numerous problems. According to him, the various agricultural stations would hold the imported tractors in trust for the farmers who would borrow them for use on their farms. Arrangements, he said, could be made for the farmers to pay for the services rendered after harvesting their produce and selling them.

Similar durbars were held at Kwame Danso in the Sene district, Prang, Atebubu and Yeji in the Atebubu district.

At Kwame Danso, President Kufuor urged the people to consolidate the country’s infant democracy and stand up against anybody who could want to subvert it, stressing that “any attempt by anyone to destabilize the country could not be tolerate”.

According to him, “It is the duty of every Ghanaian to guard the constitution by using the ballot box to change government”. President Kufour assured the people of good roads, hospitals, communication facilities and other social amenities to enhance their livelihood.
