No stand by generator for Sunyani hospital

The Sunyani Municipal Health Director, Dr David Opare, says lack of accommodation for staff of the municipal hospital, stand-by generator as well as poor road from the main entrance of the hospital to the wards, are some of the problems facing the health directorate.

He said this in a statement at the directorate’s 2011 half year meeting in Sunyani. Dr Opare added that there are also delays in payment of claims from the health insurance scheme.

The statement said the health directorate recorded 3,225 cases of diarrhea and 57,672 cases of malaria from January to June this year.

The Directorate’s general Out Patient Department (OPD) cases increased from 125,075 in 2010 to 140,112 in 2011.

It further recorded 3,025 cases of hypertension, 18 cases of tuberculosis whilst 5,379 cases of acute eye problems were treated during the period.

The statement added that out of 3,575 pregnant women tested for HIV, 74 of them proved positive.
