Ningo Chief Asks E.T. To Apologise

Nene Terkunor Amu II, representing the Ningo Leweh Royal Ruling Clans, has asked his Member of Parliament, Mr Enoch Teye Mensah, popularly known as E.T., to render a sincere apology in the media for insulting Ga people who voted for or support the NPP. Nene Amu reminded Mr Mensah of the traditional bond of relationship ?that exists between the Gas and the Ningo people otherwise known as the Dangmes, a bond of relationship which is far above party politics, which dates back to centuries.?

Nene Amu, II, known in private life as Dr. Matthew N. Tetteh, made this appeal in an open letter to Mr Mensah, date April 14 and copied to the media. Below is the full text of the letter.

Hon. Enoch Teye Mensah, MP
Ningo-Prampram
Parliament House Accra

Dear Hon. Mr Mensah,

Re: Open Letter To You, Hon. Enock Teye Mensah, MP, Ningo-Prampram No. 1

It is with deep concern that I am writing to you in my capacity as representing the Ningo Leweh Royal Ruling clans. A former Regent and Acting Paramount Chief, President of the Great Ningo Traditional Council and member of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, Dodowa.

My attention has been drawn by the concerned, Good people of Great Ningo to an article which appeared in The Daily Dispatch Volume 10, No. 90 of Tuesday, March 30, 2004, with headline as follows:

?Ga People In NPP Are Fools ? E.T.? As a citizen and a Royal whose status traditionally and legally, mandated me to swear the Great Oath of Great Ningo, an oath which is till subsisting, I am under traditional obligation when requested by a popular concern to answer to the call of those concerned, in accordance to my oath.

According, I am informing you that the good people of Great Ningo are deeply aggrieved and highly concerned to learn that you, their Honourable Member of Parliament should, without any justifiable cause, throw open INSULTS, tantamount to hostility and disrespect to our neighbouring Gas who join the ruling Party, the New Patriotic Party, describing them as Fools, etc. etc.

You must be aware of the TRADITIONAL BON OF RELATIONSHIP that exists between the Gas and the Ningo people otherwise known as The Dangmes a bond of relationship which is far above Party Politics, which dates back to centuries. Your utterances as appeared in the Press could no doubt be viewed or interpreted as also the public opinion of the Ningo people towards our Ga Dangme structure.

At a time like this, when the whole nation is preparing and praying for the maintenance of the peace and tranquillity now being enjoyed by both Ghanaians and foreigners, your most uncharitable and unguarded utterances have indeed embarrassed the good people of Great Ningo in so far as you are their sitting Member of Parliament and therefore their spokesman.

There is no reason or justification to suggest or think that Ningo People will sit down unconcerned and allow you, their Member of Parliament to display such open disrespect to their traditional neighbours the Gas, whose Traditional Area houses the Nation?s Capital City, Accra.

Your action is regarded by the good people of Ningo as also an insult and wanton disregard to them as your electorate.
