New Vision Party holds first W/R congress

Takoradi, June 28, -GNA- Mr. Kojo Gyamfi, Press Secretary of the New Vision Party (NVP), on Saturday said the party is seeking power to reform and modernize the economy. He was speaking at the first Western Regional Congress of the Party at Takoradi.

Mr. Gyamfi, who deputised for Prophet Daniel Yaw Nkansah, the founder of the party, said the party would achieve these goals "with discipline, integrity, fairness, honesty, justice and equity". He said the provision of enough food, clothing, better health care, shelter and education would be the starting point of modernization and economic development.

Mr Gyamfi said the party's objectives are to make drastic changes in the way the Civil Service operates and upgrade the salary structure. He said it is also the objective of the party to double the country's Gross Domestic Product by 2010 to make it possible to adequately feed, cloth and provide shelter to the people. In an election supervised by the Electoral Commission (EC), a 17-member regional executive, under the chairmanship of Mr. Patrick Mensah were elected by popular acclamation.
