Tamale, June 23, GNA - A network of agencies on Tuesday gave a firm commitment to the protection and promotion of child rights for their positive development in the Northern Region. The network would among other things monitor, sensitize and evaluate issues bothering on children's abuses including, child labour, trafficking, rape and defilement.

The network which comprised the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) as the lead agency and other governmental and non-governmental agencies working on child protection in the region affirmed their commitment in Tamale on Tuesday in a meeting to adopt strategies to promote children's welfare.

Mr. Haruna Fuseini, Northern Regional Director of NCCE, urged the network to liaise with other departments and agencies so that there would not be duplication of functions in their quest to protect the interest of the child.

He called on member agencies to be committed and sacrifice their time and resources for the course of children's rights. Mr. Fuseini commended UNICEF for its assistance in the fight to protect the rights of children and appealed to other NGOs working for the interest of children to come to the aid of the network for its activities to be sustainable.
