National Youth Council is cash strapped

Accra, Aug. 24, GNA - The National Youth Council (NYC), is cash strapped, thus throwing its role of implementing youth policies in doubt, an official of the Council said on Tuesday.

Mr Bright Asare, Coordinator at the Accra Metropolitan Office, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA), in Accra that the NYC was in need of funds to implement its mandate of organising the youth for national development.

He said the office had only two staff, the Coordinator and the Secretary, who perform additional duties."

Mr Asare took the GNA round the office and pointed at an outmoded typewriter, a radio set, two tables and two chairs for the scanty staff.

The NYC, is dedicated to the overall development of the youth, gender equity and human rights, national integration, sustainable development and international brotherhood.

However, due to financial constraints, only a handful of Ghanaian youth, know about the relevance of the Council, since its activities does not cover a large number of beneficiaries.

The Council organises annual youth camps at the District, Regional and the National level.

A National Youth Camp for Peace, is scheduled for Ho in the Volta Region, from August 29 to September 5.
