Nana Konadu disowns PNDC, NDC

Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, the presidential aspirant of the National Democratic Party (NDP), has said she should not be judged for the 18-year rule of the PNDC/NDC government.

She said she was only at the periphery of governance and was not in charge of governance.

During an interaction with journalists in Accra, Mrs. Rawlings said the formation of the NDP was a necessary intervention to put the country back on the path of seeking social justice.

"We have all witnessed the erosion of the core values of seeking social justice," she said, adding, "Ghanaians do not only deserve better but the best."

She said she wondered how it had come to be that intrigues and windings of political play appeared to have been placed before the welfare of the individual.

"We cannot be politicking while most of our youth have no jobs, eating three times a day is still a dream for many and exorbitant sums of monies are being paid in judgment debt,” she said.

Mrs. Rawlings said Ghanaians had to realize that continuing to vote for "our traditional parties" was only going to keep the country in its present non-progressive state.

She said the time had come for another option of governance to be looked at.

She said whilst most Ghanaians worked very hard, this hard work did not yield good results as a result of bad governance, which resulted in so much corruption and inefficiency.

Mrs. Rawlings said strengthening the arms of government and encouraging participatory democracy from the grass roots was a core aim of the NDP as part of its measures to fight against corruption in governance.

She said the country had serious problems that needed immediate solutions, adding that the NDP would give Ghanaians the best now.
