Nana Akwasi chastises press over coverage of alleged assault case

Kumasi, Sept 25, GNA - Nana Akwasi Agyeman, Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, has slammed the press for what he describes as "inconsistencies and deliberate misrepresentation of facts" in their reports of his alleged assault on Dr Richard Winfred Anane, Member of Parliament (MP) for Bantama, and Mr Agyeman Pambour, assembly member for Santasi.

He said while in one breath the press claimed that he personally beat up Dr. Anane, the same press in another breath stated that "I asked my agents to assault Dr. Anane". Nana Agyeman, therefore, asked journalists of both the print and electronic media to be factual and objective in their news presentation and desist from jumping to conclusions.

These were contained in a press statement issued and signed by the Metropolitan Chief Executive in Kumasi. He said he stood by his earlier denial of beating up Dr. Anane and Mr Pambour and expressed optimism that the on-going police investigations into the allegation would clear him of any involvement in the alleged assault of the two.

Nana Agyeman said he was surprised to see Mr S.K. Boafo, MP for Subin, a professed Christian and preacher of the gospel, condemning him without listening to his side of the story.

"I wish to state at this point in time that, in addition to the due process of the law already initiated, I am prepared to take the great sacred oath of the Asante nation and I invite Dr. Anane and Mr Pambour to come forward and do the same for the sake of the truth".

He said as a mature person and a royal, he takes responsibility for his acts and that if there was any truth in the allegation, he would have had the courage to admit and be prepared to face the consequence.

On the other hand, I also have the courage to stand up to my accusers and dare them to allow the due process of the law to take its full course," he added.
