Nana Akufo-Addo Cautioned

Akufo-Addo! Do not rush in selecting a running mate- Bugri Naabu

Accra, Jan. 7, GNA- Mr Daniel Bugri Naabu, a founding member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), on Monday cautioned the party's flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to be circumspect about his choice of a running mate in order not to spell his political doom.

He said the intensive lobbying, especially on religious, ethnic and regional basis for the post would not give Nana Akufo-Addo the space to carry out an effective campaign.

Mr. Bugri Naabu, who made this known in an interview with journalists in Accra, appealed to the NPP presidential candidate to consult broadly in order to get a suitable candidate to ensure the victory of the party in Elections 2008.

"It is not a foregone conclusion that a running mate should necessarily come from a particular region or religion.

"A running mate should be a time-tested and marketable personality who can improve on the political fortunes of the NPP in the Northern, Upper East, Upper West and Volta regions, where the party had fared badly since 1992."

Mr. Bugri Naabu asked Nana Akufo-Addo to be guided by history to make the right choice. He commended the 16 presidential aspirants of the NPP, who lost the December 2007 delegates' congress for throwing their weight behind the presidential candidate.

Mr Bugri Naabu said the victory of the party in the Presidential and Parliamentary elections would be based on team work and called for all hands on deck to make the political dream a reality.
