NUGS calls on youth to vote

The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has called on all Ghanaian youth, particularly students of voting age, to exercise their franchise on December 7, 2004.

This, it said, had become necessary, since ?our decision today will affect our lives positively or negatively in future?.

To this end, NUGS has appealed to all institutional heads to suspend all forms of assessment between December 5 and 8, 2004 to allow students to move to their respective polling centres to cast their vote.

This was contained in a press release issued and signed by Mr. Abu Forgor, the President of NUGS, at the end of the first central committee meeting of the Union at the University of Development Studies (UDS), Wa Campus, in the Upper West Region.

The release said NUGS adopted an action plan for 2004-2005, which included the pursuance of the GETFund agenda to retrieve all arears owed by the Government and a call for the amendment of the GETFund Act.

It further called on institutions to lighten the burden of students by accepting part-payment of fees and also instituting scholarships for needy students.
