NPP to widen its Electoral College members

Bekwai (Ash), June 23, GNA - The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is considering widening its electoral college to give more members the chance to vote in national elections of the party.

The move is also geared towards ensuring that substantial members of the party had the chance to partake in the decision-making process.

Mr Yaw Bio, a leading member of the NPP at Asante-Bekwai, said this at a meeting of Polling Station Chairmen and supporters of the party at Bekwai on Sunday.

The meeting was convened under the auspices of the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the party formed recently to steer the affairs of NPP in the constituency.

The IMC was constituted to help salvage the dwindling fortunes of the party following the disintegration, disunity and division among the substantive executives in the wake of the last year's general election.

Mr Bio, who is the secretary to the IMC, appealed to activists of the party to shun apportioning blames as the party worked towards coming back to power within the shortest possible time. He appealed to the polling station chairmen to be proactive in strengthening the internal structures of the party in the constituency to foster unity and membership drive in preparation for the 2012 elections.

Mr Bio said the committee since its formation had co-opted four additional members bringing to seven the total membership of the IMC.
