NPP summons angry Ken Agyepong

Tough-talking Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin-Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyepong is set to be invited to meet the Disciplinary Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

National Chairman of the party, Jake Otanka Obetsebi-Lamptey has indeed confirmed the decision to DAILY GUIDE.

This follows his claims that national executives of the NPP are not only corrupt but also thieves.

He alleged on his own radio station, Oman FM, that some members of the national executive stole motorbikes he bought and donated to the party for campaign in the run-up to the December 2012 general elections, accusing them of using the bikes to campaign for re-election to their respective positions.

Kennedy subsequently threatened to retrieve his money if any member of the leadership of the NPP dares to invite him to answer queries.

But in an interview with the paper yesterday, party Chairman Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey said, “I have referred the matter to the Disciplinary Committee of the party and asked them to summon him and ask him to establish to them whatever proof there is to his allegations.

“Since he’s decided to make the allegations against the whole of the national executives, we are now giving him the opportunity to bring his evidence to the Disciplinary Committee,” he noted, insisting, “If he is not able to establish the truth of his allegations, then they should take whatever actions they deem fit because he is bringing the office of the Chairmanship and the whole party in disrepute.”

He however declined to respond to corruption allegations levelled against him and his colleague national executives by the disgruntled MP, saying, “I don’t think we should be debating how some people have decided to be helping the party and naming people.

“I think some people help you in confidence and they expect you to maintain that confidence; so if you start going round and supplying names and things of them, it doesn’t help,” he said.

Instead, Jake insisted that “the best thing is that if he’s got these things, then he should bring them to the proper quarters and let the proper quarters investigate and find out if it’s true or not and the proper quarters as far as I’m concerned is the Disciplinary Committee.”

What is however not clear is whether or not Ken Agyepong would honour an invitation from the Disciplinary Committee to appear before them or carry out his threat to demand payment for all monies and the motorbikes he donated to the party in the run-up to the 2012 general elections.

It is also not clear when the Committee will extend an invitation to him to appear before them over the allegations.
