NPP meets over Manhyia North chaos

The Ashanti Regional Executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are set to hold a meeting today, April 12 at 4pm, to resolve the impasse within the Manhyia North constituency.

Over 100 party members comprising polling station executives, electoral area coordinators, and constituency executives are kicking against a decision by the National Executive Committee (NEC) to rerun elections for those positions.

A section of the delegates are warning of bloodbaths if the party’s NEC dares hold the rerun.

The NEC ordered a rerun of all the constituency elections, citing a Supreme Court ruling, which nullified the party’s existing voter's register.

But the constituency executives disagree with this and have threatened to resist the move. Assistant constituency secretary Patricia Arthur told Class News: “We don’t want any hypocrisy. We are all one people and we want power. If the NEC is not aware, we are making them aware that there is not going to be any rerun at Manhyia North. If they try it, they may have to come with coffins for us.”

Meanwhile, the NPP’s Ashanti Regional General Secretary, Sam Pyne, has stated that officials of the party are working at resolving the matter.

“We will meet with all the factions. Committee [members] tasked to look at the Manhyia North polls will be part of the meeting as well. We will have other high-ranking officials to find an amicable solution. This is due to some persons, who are seeking their personal interest instead of the party. It is indiscipline on the part of some supporters,” he told Prince Menkah on Class FM’s 505 news programme on Monday 11 April 2016.
