NPP has vilified me for 4 years - Afoko

Suspended NPP chairman, Paul Afoko Suspended NPP chairman, Paul Afoko

Suspended National Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Afoko, has said he has been subjected to vilification by his party executives since he took up the chairmanship position.

Paul Afoko was suspended by the National Executive Committee after some members petitioned the party over his conduct.

The party claimed he was working against the flagbearer Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

In an interview with Ghana Television Tuesday March 22, 2016, he said the NPP had, throughout the period, told lies to damage his reputation.

“I have been vilified and lied about for two-and-a-half years. There was a point I couldn’t sleep. The Daily Guide [newspaper] became Daily Afoko. Every day, there was a story about me, lies, lies, and I kept quiet,” he stated.

“Another one of the lies I want to add and move on is that they said I went out and attacked our flagbearer (Nana Akufo-Addo) on the eve of he going on his Rise and Build tour. These were the charges.”

Mr Afoko, however, maintained that he had a cordial relationship with the flagbearer of the party.

“My relationship with the flagbearer is a civil one because I don’t see any problems with the person…if there is a problem, it’s a challenge,” added Mr Afoko.

“I will stand with you and look at the problem and we deal with it. But if I allow the problem to stand between you and me, I see the problem before I see you, you see the problem before you see me.

“I always choose to push the problem to one side… let’s look at the problem, let’s deal with it. So, for me, the flagbearer, the day he is ready to look at the problems shoulder to shoulder with me, we will deal with it, but the [relationship] between us is civil.
