NPP-UK & Ireland Branch Elects New Officers

Mr Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong, a chartered housing practitioner, is the new chairman of the UK & Ireland branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Mr Ampratwum-Sarpong beat his opponent Mr Michael Ansah, a Director of the Pricewaterhouse during the party’s general elections held in London.

Other officials elected were Mr. Adamu Daramani Sakande – 1st Vice-Chairman; Mr. Noble Akwasi Adjei-Boakye – 2nd Vice-Chairman; Mr. Kwadwo Adjei-Barwuah – Secretary; Nii Asare Addy – Assistant Secretary and Mr Robert Paapa Cudjoe – Treasurer.

The rest are Mr. Eric Agyemang – Financial Secretary; Mr. Kwadwo Gyebi Ababio – Organiser; Ms. Elizabeth Boakye – Women’s Organiser; Mr Patrick Kwadu – Youth Organiser; Nana Agyeman Gyebi – Publicity Officer.

Messrs Sam Antwi, Alex Owusu Boakye, Kofi Boadu Oppong and Darko Mensah were elected to serve on the Executive Council.

In his acceptance speech, Mr Ampratwum-Sarpong pledged to continue with the good work of the past administration and build on their achievements in order to move the party forward.

He enumerated his immediate agenda and programmes which include the establishment of regional chapters in key UK cities and the strengthening of ties with sister branches in Europe and other countries.

Mr Ampratwum-Sarpong, who until his election was the branch secretary for ten years, said he would work towards the creation of an ‘NPP In Europe’ to champion the cause and interest of Ghanaians in Europe.

Mr Ampratwum-Sarpong said he would take the party into the Ghanaian communities in the UK, set up policy unit and think tanks to advise Ministers and Policy/Decision-makers, including Parliament, and also mobilise funds, resources and ideas to make victory in 2004 a reality.

In his remarks, Mr Ansah pledged his unflinching support to the new executive council and assured all supporters that he would continue to contribute his quota towards the development of the party.
