NPP Must Cut Down Number Of Ministers - PNC Leader

The Leader of People’s National Convention (PNC), Dr Edward Mahama says the NPP administration must manage Ghana’s economy and resources with a crisis management scheme to help the country out of its economic difficulties.

Dr Mahama told JOYFM that the recent Ministerial changes effected by the President, though his prerogative, has too many positions created without specific job functions, saying that there is the need for the number of Ministers, their deputies and Special Advisors to be reduced. According to him, the creation of new Ministries has defeated the NPP government’s campaign message and “it seems they do not know what they are doing.”

Dr Mahama who says the PNC government will have cut down ministerial positions, including regional Ministers and their deputies noted that Ghana’s population of about 18.7 million does not need the current number of about 70 Ministers of State.

“We need to task people to be productive. One Minister can do the work that three Ministers are doing now because there are Chief Directors at the various Ministries who are technocrats and do all the job. The Ministers are just there to give instructions,” he explained.
