NIA receives communication equipment

Accra, May 8, GNA - The Director-General of the National Communications Authority, Mr Bernard Adu Forson Jr, on Thursday presented mobile handsets, airtime and modems worth 240,000 Ghana cedis on behalf of the four mobile phone operators to the National Identification Authority (NIA).

The support materials presented by MTN, Tigo, Kasapa and OneTouch were in response to an appeal made by the NIA for assistance in the area of communications to support the national mass registration exercise.

Mr. Forson Jnr. said the donation of the communication devices would facilitate and enhance communication among key field NIA operators in the country.

He expressed appreciation to the networks and called on other corporate entities to do likewise. Receiving the items, Professor Ernest Dumor, Executive Secretary, NIA, said the call for assistance became necessary because of the high cost involved in the successful execution of the exercise. He said the NIA, which was set up in 2003, had the key responsibility for institutionalizing the management of a credible database and to issue and promote the use of national cards.
