Mr Kwabena Osei Bonsu, Chief Executive Officer of Add Your Voice Now, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), championing the cause of peace and unity, has added his voice to the call on the Electoral Commission (EC) to compile a new Voters Register ahead of Election 2016.

He said the EC should also put mechanisms in place to prevent foreigners from registering.

Mr Osei Bonsu who made the call in an interview with Ghana News Agency in Accra, said the EC must evaluate the concerns of Ghanaians who had expressed lack of faith in the old register, which they claimed was bloated and contained names of foreigners.

He said although the Constitution guaranteed the independence of the EC, it also guaranteed its accountability to the citizenry.

The Let My Vote Count Alliance and the NPP had earlier on called on former President Kufuor, and proceeded with a similar call on former President John Rawlings and his wife, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings for the EC to compile a new register.

Mr Osei Bonsu said in order to ensure peace during and after the 2016 elections, everything must be done to ensure a very credible electoral process, including getting a credible Voters Register, and a peaceful electoral climate.

He expressed the hope that the EC would respond to the call, and come out with a new register to ensure peace and stability in the country.
