NDC will win back power

DR Obed Asamoah, Chairman of the National Reorganisation Committee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said the party will win back political power in the 2004 elections.

He has, therefore, called on members of the party to broaden the support base of the party at the constituency level.

Dr Asamaoh was speaking at Ho at the weekend during an interaction with party executives from the constituencies in the region.

He said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is not likely to perform creditably because the party has saddled itself with policies not conducive to the socio-economic development of the country.

He mentioned some of them as the adoption of Highly Indebted Poor Country (HIPC) initiative, the growing discontent among Ghanaians about increase in water and electricity bills and indeed the general rising cost of living.

Dr Asamoah stressed that NPP government is indebted to Ghanaians for failing to fulfil its election promises.

He argued that the government does not need four years to abolish the cash and carry system.

He expressed gratitude to the people of the Volta Region for voting massively for the party in the last general elections, explaining that without their valour, their defeat would have been more disastrous.

Earlier, the General Secretary of the party, Alhaji Huudu Yahayah briefed the participants of the essence of the meeting emphasising the need for active interaction amongst party functionaries in the formulation of strategies towards the 2004 elections.

Alhaji Mahama Iddrisu, former Presidential Adviser of the party called for discipline, emphasising that nobody is bigger than the party.

He re-echoed that the regional and constituency reorganisation teams are not meant to replace the regional executives. The meeting later elected reorganisation committees for the region and the constituencies.
