NDC leadership urges CJ to correct perception that Judiciary is politically

biased

Accra, Aug. 18, GNA - The leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Tuesday appealed to the Chief Justice, Georgina Wood, to take rapid steps to correct the growing public perception that the judiciary had become politically biased.

Dr Kwabena Adjei, National Chairman of NDC, addressing a press conference in Accra, said "We cannot help but take note of the growing perception and suspicion among various segments of our society that the Judiciary is becoming politicised and biased in dispensing justice."

He said NDC remained committed to the rule of law for a Better Ghana and give the Judiciary the benefit of the doubt that there were men and women within the Judiciary who were committed to maintaining the integrity of the law.

Referring to the recent Accra Fast Track High Court ruling that discharged Dr Charles Wereko-Brobby and Kwadwo Okyere Mpiani, Dr Adjei said recommendations of the Justice Duose Commission still existed and indicated that the two had caused huge financial loss to Ghana through their reckless actions and must pay the appropriate penalty.

He explained that the court's ruling was based on contentious interpretations of the constitutional provisions and urged the Attorney-General to pursue the case to its logical conclusion and at the highest level.

"The NDC welcomes the determination and commitment of the AG to pursuing Justice and wish to assure her of the fullest support of the party since we are a party committed to the rule of law, fairness and justice," he added.

"The media, the so-called NDC foot soldiers and all Ghanaians should leave Mrs Betty Mould-Iddrissu alone", Dr Adjei said, adding that the Judiciary must be independent of any partisan consideration.
