NDC Cadres Laud Kwesi Botchwey

A group of National Democratic Congress (NDC) cadres, including some leading members of the party in the municipality, have welcomed the news that Dr. Kwesi Botchwey, former Minister of Finance, is aspiring to contest for the NDC presidential slot in 2004 and have appealed to him to make open his intentions because the NDC is now a democratic party.

Chronicle learnt from the spokesperson who pleaded anonymity that Dr. Botchwey's flagbearership will bring back peace and tranquillity, and that all the leading members who deserted the party for obvious reasons will rejoin the party.

Chronicle further learnt that the former Presidential Advisor on Government Affairs, Mr. P. V. Obeng, who showed interest to contest the flagbearership, is said to have thrown his support behind Dr. Botchwey.

According to the spokesperson, rumours circulating inside the NDC indicate that the former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, is geari9ng up to contest the leadership of the party.

Chronicle further learnt from the spokesperson that as soon as Dr. Botchwey makes his intentions public, majority of the cadres who suffered under Rawlings' government will rally around to mobilise support for him.

Dr. Kwesi Botchwey was appointed Minister of Finance in 1982 and resigned his portfolio in 1995.

Meanwhile Chronicle's undercover investigations have revealed that a number of agents of the former flagbearer, Prof. John Atta Mills, are working tirelessly to whip up support for Prof. Mills who was defeated by President J. A. Kufuor in the 2000 presidential elections.
