NALAG declares commitment for Logo South Programme

Accra, Oct 20, GNA - The President of the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG), Mr Theophilus Aidoo-Mensah, has assured VNG International of the Netherlands that the Logo South Programme, a partnership with some assemblies in Ghana and the Netherlands, of NALAG's commitment to make it a success.

VNG International is the Netherlands counterpart of NALAG and it is spearheading the Logo South Programme to promote effective and efficient local governance between the participating assemblies. Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirem Municipal Assembly, Kadjebi and Twifo-Heman Lower Denkyira District Assemblies are participating in the Logo South Programme.

Addressing a conference on the Logo South Programme in Accra Mr Aidoo-Mensah, the District Chief Executive for Gomoa West, said NALAG's commitment to the success of the programme was based on the assistance the participating assemblies and NALAG had been getting from VNG International and the Logo South Programme.

He said the Dutch colleagues had been assisting their colleagues in Ghana in capacity building, knowledge transfer, provision of vehicles such as pickups and fire tenders, computers, sanitary and hospital equipment.

Mr Aidoo-Mensah said under the Logo South Programme's capacity building component, VNG International had supported NALAG to upgrade and update its website, review its strategic business plans as well as training programmes in project management and proposal writing, lobbying and advocacy and Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) development.

He said through the programme, NALAG had taken major steps to improve revenue generation of the participating assemblies and also waste management and collection of data. The NALAG President expressed gratitude to the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs for funding the conference and to VNG International, German Technical Cooperation (GTZ), the Dutch Municipalities and their Ghanaians counterparts for their support and commitment to the programme.

He was also grateful to Mr S. Saaka, Ghanaian National Coordinator for the programme and expressed the hope for a deeper cooperation and collaboration in the implementation of the second phase of the Logo South Programme. 20 Oct 10
