NAGRAT disrupts SSS classes in Cape Coast

Cape Coast, Mar. 18, GNA- Academic work in all the public senior secondary schools in the Cape Coast municipality, were on Thursday disrupted, when members of the regional branch of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) went on a peaceful demonstration to press home their grievances.

The association has in addition, embarked on an indefinite strike until their grievances, including a halt to dues and levies being deducted by the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), and the call on the GES to raise responsibility allowances for heads of schools and teachers are met.

The graduate teachers processed through the principal streets of Cape Coast from 1100 hours carrying placards some of which read, "Accountant-General Enough of Your Tricks, GES Allow Teachers to Negotiate with WAEC for Better Remuneration, Restore CAP 30 to Teachers, GES Council Issue Promotion Letters Immediately, and GES We Need Better Conditions of Service".

Mr Steven Arthur and Mr Hiob Howusu, regional chairman and secretary respectively, later presented petitions to the Central Regional Minister, Regional Director of Education, the Municipal Chief Executive, and the Municipal Director of Education.

The petitions, signed by Mr Arthur called on the government to initiate immediate action in resolving their concerns, which were raised at a press conference on February 11 this year.

All the recipients assured them that their concerns would be channelled to the appropriate quarters for redress. 18 March 04
