NADMO Official In Fraud Case

An official of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) Sulemana Yeremiah is alleged to have used the name of the Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahatma, to defraud a Madam Miriam Mamah Tulah of Larterbiokorhsie of $2,500 under the pretext of securing a United States (US) visa for her.

Narrating the case to the Daily guide at the weekend, the victim, Madam Miriam Mamah Tulah said sometime last year, 2002, she discussed with her mother about her intention to travel to the US for a visit. She stated that the mother advised her to see the suspect, Sulemana Yeremiah, who was working at the NADMO regional office in Accra as he could easily assist her to secure the visa. According to the complainant, based on the advice from her mother, she went straight to the office of the suspect and discussed her problems with him.

Yeremiah then promised her that she would be included in the Vice President’s entourage to the US and that the suspect demanded $4,000 from her, but Miriam alleged that she could only pay $2,500. She further told Daily Guide that she later brought the money and Sulemana Yeremiah accepted it, promising her that he will secure the visa for her. After h\this, the complainant said Sulemana later told her that the Vice President invited him for cocktail and passport with the money to the Vice President’s Office and that she has been asked to come in two weeks for her passport with the visa stamped in it.

According to the complainant, (Miriam Mamah) months after this, the accused (Sulemana) was still not able to deliver on his promise. The complainant alleged that Jeremiah was summoned to the Chief Iman’s office for the issue to be discussed. It came out after discussion that the complainant was promised a job and later her money would be refunded to her, but she does not need a job and that she is only after her money or the American visa which they promised to refund to her.
