My best is yet to come - Dede

Ghana vice-Captain Andre Ayew believes he is yet to be a great player, making reference to the consistency of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in the game.

The 24-year-old captained the Black Satellites to win the 2009 U-20 World Cup, thus becoming the only African to achieve that feat.

Ayew, who won the 2013 BBC African player of the year, has been shortlisted among four other African stars, namely Yaya Toure, Sadio Mane, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyeng and Yacine Brahimi for this year’s award.

Andre, who has had a great start at Swansea City scoring 4 goals and an assist in the on-going English Premier League, believes he has to be very consistent to become a great footballer since Ronaldo and Messi have dominated the sport close to a decade.

“I’m not surprised with my performance but just working hard to improve and the results are showing on the pitch,” Ayew told Starr fm.

“When you get a good beginning, people get to know you more and they start to mount tactics on you.”

“So I need to even work harder because things are becoming more difficult, that is the game and that is why I have a lot of respect for the big players like Ronaldo and Messi.”

“When you start and you are winning and scoring, people mark you with a different eye and if you keep doing it that means you are great.”

“So to be an ambitious and a great player I have to do more so I haven’t done anything yet,” Andre ended.
