Dr. John Gatsi, an economist, and lecturer at the University of Cape Coast, has said his doctorate degree in finance is not fake contrary to publications to that effect.

He told ClassFMonline.com in an interview on Thursday, August 4 that he toiled for six years to attain the degree.

On August 3, 2016, pulse.com.gh carried a story that suggested that Dr. Gatsi and a raft of other prominent Ghanaians got their PhD honors conferred on them by universities that were not accredited.

According to the website, the Valdosta State University in Valdosta, Georgia, USA, had drawn the attention of Ghana's Minister of Education to the matter.

Some of the alleged unaccredited universities named in the Valdosta State University's report as published by pulse.com.gh include Atlantic International University, Hawaii; Dayspring Christian University and Affiliates, Almeda College/University, American Century University, European-American University and the Swiss Management Centre (SMC) where Dr. Gatsi is reported to have got his PhD.

Dr. Gatsi, however, told ClassFMonline.com that he obtained his PhD on merit, adding that he had instructed his lawyers to deal with the matter. "You can go the National Accreditation Board to find out," he said.
