My Lord, I saw a big lion...

Lion In Circuit Court

Space FM, Sunyani- There was drama at the Sunyani Circuit Court when 27-year old Daniel Yeboah, who was standing trial for alleged robbery, suddenly jumped through the court window in an attempt to escape. For that daring act, the court suspended hearing the substantive robbery case against him and rather sentenced him to three years imprison with hard labour. His plea was not taken. After serving the three years, he would be brought back for the robbery case against him to be heard.

Lawyer Kwasi Arhin, who saw the accused outside the court room confronted him and subsequently assisted the police to rearrest him. When Yeboah was brought back to court, he told the court that he saw a big lion behind the judge and that he was only running for safety.

Presenting the facts of the case to the court presided over by his LordshipGodfred Kofi Debrah, the prosecutor, ASP Martin Dafiamakpor said, the accused is a suspected armed robber in police custody.

He was sent to court on August 30, 2007 for an alleged robbery case. During proceeding in court, the accused suddenly ran across the court room and jumped through the window but was rearrested.

When the judge asked why he wanted to escape trial, which is also punishable, he replied that “I saw a big lion coming from behind you that is why I decided to escape”, to the amusement to all present.
